Prince Hubertus of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha
Prince Hubertus of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha (August 24, 1909 – November 26, 1943) was a member of the House of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, the second eldest son of Carl Eduard, Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha and his wife, Princess Victoria Adelaide of Schleswig-Holstein.
Prince Hubertus was born at Reinhardsbrunn Castle, German Empire. His father, Carl Eduard, was the reigning Duke of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, the only son of Prince Leopold, Duke of Albany and a grandson of Queen Victoria. Hubertus thus held the title of a Prince of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, and a Prince of the United Kingdom, with the style His Highness as a great grandchild of the British monarch.
In 1917, King George V passed letters patent removing the title of Prince and Princess and the style Highness for all great grandchildren of the British monarch, depriving Hubertus of his British titles. At that the end of World War I his father was forced to abdicate as Duke and become a private citizen.
Prince Hubertus joined the German Army, and saw action in the Eastern Front during World War II. He was killed in action on on November 26, 1943 aged 34 in Mosty, Russia.
