Description

Yes, it is finally complete and on display in Michael and Gillian Linton's knitwear shop in Geraldine, New Zealand. The mosaic went up onto the wall at the beginning of August after nearly 2 years of deliberation as to how to mount and display the mosaic.

The mounting of the mosaic would mean the removal of the Giant Jersey map display, but it could easily be put back if there was little interest in the mosaic. No opening ceremony was performed as it was uncertain at this time if there would be any public interest. A slow trickle of people started to arrive to view the mosaic and on 26 September 2001 the Timaru Herald did a front page feature on the mosaic. It did not take long for others to take an interest and on the 2nd October 2001 both TV1 and TV3 ran an item on the 6 O'clock news about the mosaic. It was at this point we realized that the mosaic would not be coming down and that the public interest was far greater than we had anticipated. We now regularly have many groups and individuals visiting the Giant Jersey to view the mosaic.
