Shrewsbury Abbey

Shrewsbury Abbey, now famous for its prominent role in the Brother Cadfael mysteries of Ellis Peters, is a medieval monastic foundation. Thomas Telford built his A5 road through part of the Abbey and now only part of the original abbey church is still in existence and a place of worship.

Shrewsbury Abbey is also the name for the small railway station, and later depot, which was opposite the Abbey. See the Shropshire and Montgomeryshire Railway article. It now is just a car park. There are currently plans to restore the station as a tourist information centre and possibly a cafe.
