Princess Caroline Mathilde of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha

Princess Caroline Mathilde (Helene Ludwiga Augusta Beatrice) of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, Duchess of Saxony (22 June 1912, Schloss Callenburg near Coburg - 5 September 1983, Erlangen) was the fourth child and second daughter of Carl Eduard, Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha and Princess Victoria Adelaide of Schleswig-Holstein.

Her paternal grandparents were Prince Leopold, Duke of Albany and Princess Helena, Duchess of Albany. Leopold was the fourth and last son of Queen regnant Victoria of the United Kingdom and Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha.

Caroline was a younger sister of Prince Johann Leopold of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, Princess Sibylla of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha and Prince Hubertus of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha. She was also an older sister of Prince Friedrich Josias of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha.

On 14 December 1931, Caroline married Friedrich Wolfgang Otto, Count of Castell-Ruedenhausen (1906 - 1940). They were parents of three children:

  • Bertram of Castell-Ruedenhausen (1932- )
  • Conradin of Castell-Ruedenhausen (1933- )
  • Victoria of Castell-Ruedenhausen (1935 - ).

On 2 May 1938, Caroline and Friedrich were divorced. He was killed in action during World War II (1939 - 1945).

On 22 June, 1938, Caroline was married to her second husband Captain Max Schnirring (1895-1944). They were parents of three children:

  • Calma Schnirring (1938- ).
  • Dagmar Schnirring (1940- ).
  • Michael Schnirring (1943-1966).

On 23 December 1946, Caroline married her thrird husband Karl Andree (1912-1984). They divorced on 27 December 1947. No children resulted from this marriage.
