This castle to the west of Rathkeale dates from around 1460 to 1480 and is said to have been built by the MacSheehies. It was forfeited by Thomas Caune after the Desmond rebellion of 1579, held by Donogh O'Brien in 1620, and by Sir Edward Fitzgerald in 1655.
